Mercer County Circuit Clerk--Bobbi Sue Young-Huntoon

Ms. Young-Huntoon of rural Viola currently works as a classroom aide for Galesburg HS's Special Education class.  Bobbi-Sueworked for St. Representative Mike Boand (D-East Moline) for eight and a half years.  She worked as office manager and constituent service caseworker.  She was also elected to the East Moline City Council in 1999.  She was elected to fill the final two years of a vacated four-year term as City Cler.

Mercer County State's Attorney--Gregory J. McHugh

STATE’S ATTORNEY GREG McHUGH SEEKS THIRD TERM
WITH SUPPORT OF COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT
Mercer County State’s Attorney Gregory J. McHugh announced today he will seek a third term as Mercer County State’s Attorney. McHugh noted his working with law enforcement officials over the last 8 years has earned him the endorsement of Sheriff Tom Thompson and continuing support of retired Sheriff Larry E. Glancey and retired Court Services Supervisor James E. Bartelt. McHugh’s work on the civil side for the County has also won him the endorsement of Mercer County Board Chairman, Tom Harris.

"My greatest asset is experience" says McHugh. "In addition to being the County prosecutor, I paid my dues for eight years as Mercer County Public Defender in the 1990's. Prior to that I provided free legal assistance to low income residents of Mercer, Rock Island and Henry counties through Prairie State Legal Services".
McHugh graduated from Chicago Kent Law School in 1976 and is licensed in all Illinois Courts and adjoining Federal Courts. He and his wife of 30 years, JoEllen, have raised three boys in Mercer County, who graduated from Sherrard High School. Two of his sons work in Chicago and the youngest is in the army facing a second tour in Iraq.
"While the local criminal justice system is my number one priority, we are facing possibly one of the most crucial national elections in history. My goal in 2008 will be to help a strong Democratic party win at all levels from the Mercer County Courthouse to the White House".

Illinois State Senator--Paul Rumler

"With a dedication to public service, I will work every day to make a positive difference in your life."  He states that his Democratic values are "enhance educational opportunities, access to health care is a fundamental human right, advocate of fiscal responsibility, protect civil and human rights, support reproductive choice, and advocate of prevailing wages and project labor agreements."  He also states that you he "values public service over backroom politics, will represent constituent needs instead of lobbyists, works with community leaders and elected officials in a positive manner, and will actively represent all areas of the 36th Legislative District."
